I have two sons who love to wrestle with each other and their dad. They insist that they’re “bonding.” I don’t understand it. At all. My daughter and I have a great relationship. We’re bonded, but we’ve never wrestled around on the floor. It must be a “guy” thing. Maybe it’s a good thing? It was for Jacob. He wrestled all night with God.
“I will not let you go unless you bless me.” Genesis 32:26
That was Jacob’s vantage point. Here was God’s perspective:
“You have struggled with God and humans and have overcome.” Genesis 32:28
There’s a lot about this story that I don’t understand. But here is what I love: God allowed Jacob to wrestle. He certainly didn’t have to. God was patient. He was stronger but knew that this was not about winning. It was about bonding. Jacob felt safe to wrestle with the Lord. If you’re struggling or wrestling with God today, don’t let go. He promises that He won’t let go either. There is no better place to wrestle than in His presence. It just may bring you into a closer relationship with your Father. That is worth the wrestling! – Sandi
