Jordan:
What’s your favorite karaoke song?

Anne Wilson:
Oh, wow.

Jordan:
You know I’m going to ask you to sing a little bit of it.

Anne Wilson:
I know, so that’s why I’m thinking.

Jordan:
So you may have to pick the right one.

Anne Wilson:
I’m like, what would this karaoke song be? Singing “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton

Jordan:
Welcome to JOY FM off stage where you get to know the artists off air. I mean, you know their songs on stage, but do you really know everything about Anne Wilson? An awesome song called “Mamas”. We played that at church on mother’s day. So I have to-

Anne Wilson:
Oh, that’s so sweet.

Jordan:
I have to ask who the song is about.

Anne Wilson:
Yes. That song is about my mom! My mom is precious to me. My biggest inspiration, encourager, my best friend. She’s always led me to Jesus my whole life and raised me in the most incredible Christian family home. And so I wrote that song specifically for my mom, but then also for all the other moms out there.

Jordan:
See mom, she wrote a song for you? And I didn’t even have to pull any strings. Anne Wilson wrote a song for my mom. So that’s awesome. Tell me what’s the most rebellious thing you did as a teenager?

Anne Wilson:
Oh man. I had an attitude with my mom. Okay. I was sassy as a child, so I would tell my mom all the time. She’d be like, no, you can’t go do that. And I would cross my arms like this and I would be like, you’re not the boss of me, mom. And it would be bad. It would be really bad. She would take my phone away. And it wasn’t good. But that’s kind of the only thing I did was just had an attitude.

Jordan:
No wonder why she wrote the song Mamas. You got to make up for when you were the rebellious teenager. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Anne Wilson:
Oh, I wanted to be an astronaut and work for NASA. I loved space, my whole childhood. And I wanted to just kind of study the stars and experience a part of God’s creation that I had never experienced before. And I thought that’s perfect.

Jordan:
Getting closer to the stars than anybody else on earth. That’s awesome stuff.

Jordan:
All right. So let’s go online, get into your Amazon cart. How many items do you think you have in your Amazon cart right now?

Anne Wilson:
I think I’ve got about five or six. I only know that because yesterday I was shopping for makeup stuff and I remember exactly how many things I had in there.

Jordan:
And so some of those you’re like, all right, save to later, save to later, but I’m going to purchase these right now.

Jordan:
What’s one chore you wish you never had to do again?

Anne Wilson:
Oh, I hate cleaning dishes, in the soapy water sticking your hand and you don’t know what’s going to be in there. That’s so gross to me. I would rather just put it all in the dishwasher and just let that do its job.

Jordan:
My family wonders why I have a problem reaching in. They keep the water the next day!

Anne Wilson:
That’s disgusting.

Jordan:
So it’s cold, soapy water.

Anne Wilson:
That’s so gross. You never know what’s going to be in there.

Jordan:
What’s one thing we don’t know about you?

Anne Wilson:
Wow. You may not know I did dance for 13 years. I did ballet and I was very committed to the craft. I was in the studio five or six hours a day after school for 13 years was dedicated in my life to dance.

Jordan:
So dance and music. And you decided to head towards the music world?

Anne Wilson:
Yep. Absolutely.

Jordan:
Do we ever get to see a little bit of dance up on stage though?

Anne Wilson:
A little bit. Yeah.

Jordan:
Okay. So if you’re going to be seeing Anne Wilson in concert, look for some dance moves. Not ballet, but you’re going to see some dance moves. Right?

Jordan:
All right. The most useless talent you have, what would that be?

Anne Wilson:
Wow. Hmm. I don’t know if this is useless, but I won… So I used to do swimming lessons. I was on the swim team. This is actually very useful because in case something happened, I know how to swim. But I won the Kentucky state in my age division, whatever award it was for best swimmer, fastest swimmer or whatever. So I can swim very, very fast.

Jordan:
So you’re cheering on Michael Phelps during the Olympics when he was swimming and winning all those gold medals. You’re like, I can do that.

Anne Wilson:
Yeah.

Jordan:
That’s awesome. What creeps you out?

Anne Wilson:
Spiders. Oh my gosh. I’m terrified of any type of bug. If I see a bug, I literally run the other way. I don’t even try to kill it. I don’t even try to spray anything on it. I’m just like, I can’t even handle bugs and spiders are just the worst thing ever.

Jordan:
So I would say if there was one thing on your tour bus that you must have, it would be a can of raid.

Anne Wilson:
Yes.

Jordan:
Got it.

Anne Wilson:
Absolutely.

Jordan:
Right. Who is the most famous person in your phone contacts?

Anne Wilson:
Lauren Daigle. I so can’t believe I even said that. She’s one of my favorite artists of all time. So to even have her phone number is insane. I love her so much.

Jordan:
Do you use the phone number or do you just-

Anne Wilson:
Sometimes. No, we text sometimes.

Jordan:
Aw, that is awesome!

Anne Wilson:
I know. It’s really cool.

Jordan:
All right. Advice that you’d give to your 12 year old self?

Anne Wilson:
Mm. I would say to not worry so much about the future, but that I would just encourage myself to put everything in God’s hands, knowing that he has a greater plan for my life. Sometimes it’s hard for me because I like to plan for my future. And so when I was younger, 12, 13, 14 I would always worry about tomorrow. What am I going to do next year? What am I going to do when I’m older? And then it would just rob me of the joy in the present moment. And so I would just encourage myself to really live in the moment and to know that God has a plan that God sees the bigger picture and that I don’t see it. So why would I worry about tomorrow?
