When I used to read this verse, it would make me uncomfortable. Nervous. It isn’t a “warm and fuzzy” kind of verse. Jesus is making a point and He doesn’t mince words.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father..” Matthew 7:21
The warning is clear: God isn’t impressed with our words, even our Christian words. He desires our obedience. He doesn’t need us solely talking about Him or even talking to Him. He wants us surrendered. That’s a sign of someone who loves their Father. His will becomes our way. Our love for Him is not in words alone, but in obedience. That not only pleases our Father, but it points a watching world to Him as well. – Sandi
