It was quite humbling to be called out by my Christian counselor for allowing lies to grow in my mind to the point that I believed them to be true. Worst yet, they were steering my heart and robbing me of joy.
Not everything that rattles around in our brains or settles into our hearts is rooted in truth. It is so easy to latch on to an emotion or a thought and follow its lead. But there is a better way.
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2
I have discovered that I can love God but still have “stinking thinking.” The subtle lies of the enemy and the world that seep into our minds. The unhealthy emotions that start to steer our lives. The familiar thoughts that we are convinced to be true, but don’t align with God’s Word.
That’s why we need our minds to be renewed. We need a plumb. (And maybe even a wake-up call from a friend or counselor). We will begin to live and love differently when our thoughts and hearts are being transformed. And rooted in the Truth of God’s word. It is the only cure for stinking thinking. And it is a more truthful, joyful way to live. – Sandi
