I wrote this in the margin of my bible: “Busy with doing ‘good’ but forgetting to love God.”
“I know your…hard work and perseverance…that you can’t tolerate evil…Yet I hold this against you: You have forgotten your first love.” Revelation 2:2-4
I recognize myself in this passage. Having a desire to do good, to work hard, and to persevere is not bad in and of itself. But if it becomes the totality of our relationship with Christ, then we’ve settled for good instead of God. I don’t want to simply be busy. I want to be in love with Jesus. Spending more time with Him than doing things for Him. This passage was written to believers who lost their way. I pray that we won’t settle for good. – Sandi
